Boston Strangler (Unsolved Mysteries) – Booklist

Cover: Unsolved Mysteries

A disquieting entry in the Unsolved Mysteries series, this account of the hunt for the killer of (at least) 11 Boston-area women between 1962 and 1964 is not only laced with lurid details but also presents a case study in media-fueled terror and how public pressure to resolve criminal cases speedily can lead to questionable, at best, results. Along with presenting cogent reasons why the validity of Albert DeSalvo’s protracted “confession” is doubtful, Hoblin introduces no fewer than seven other sexual predators—many, presumably, still alive—who have been considered strong suspects in at least some of the killings.
